Auctioneer's Note: Elisabeth Stopp in her flat at Bushey Heath, recovering after an operation. Dr. Stopp was a German and French scholar and later became a Fellow of Girton College, Cambridge. She was translater of St. Francis de Sales, Goethe's Maxims and Reflections , and biographer of St Jane Frances de Chantal. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, she died in Cambridge in 1996 aged 85.

Auctioneer's Note: Born in Abergavenny, Claudine Brown studied French at the University of London. She went on to teach in France and at the Royal Ballet School, later marrying and returning to Wales. She continued her education in the '70s, studying fine art at Newport Art College, and a postgraduate study in textiles at the Central School of Art and Design (Goldsmiths College). Brown completed many exhibitions, demonstrated and taught weaving. She had a diverse portfolio of work using many varied materials, from acrylic to textiles. Her influences included Monmouthshire rural landscapes, France, Morocco, and Tuscany.
