Robert Meyrick: Taking an evening stroll on a visit to Claudia and Gwilym in Tenby, we paused a moment to watch a game of bowls. I told them of a time when I lived overlooking a bowling green and had been captivated by this most calming of competitive sports – the players’ chatter and mellow click of the ‘woods,’ the all-white attires and the black bowls against the brilliant green of freshly-mown grass, radiant in the evening sunlight, and the long cast shadows, I suggested, would offer such graphic potential for a series of paintings. However, Claudia painted just this one bowls subject.

Robert Meyrick: On visits to our home, Claudia took special interest in our Jack Russell terrier Montague. She was charmed to see him sit up on its hind legs, seeking attention or a titbit. She asked us to send some photographs so that she might include him in a painting. Tea with Montague was her only artwork in which he made an appearance. [Those photos I included in the WeTransfer]
